Pyrimidines are cytosine (C) and thymine (T) and are one-carbon nitrogen ring bases. There is also the pyrimidine uracil (U) in RNA.
Differences with purines.
- A heterocyclic aromatic organic compound that is composed of carbon and hydrogen
- Comprises cytosine, thymine, uracil as nucleobases
- Consists of one hydrogen-carbon ring and two nitrogen atoms
- The melting point is 20-22 °C
- Catabolism produces carbon dioxide, beta-amino acids, and ammonia
