Woodstock Music and Art Fair, or Woodstock, was a music festival held from August 15 to 18, 1969. The festival is regarded as a pivotal moment in popular music history, especially towards the silent and baby boomer generations. It attracted over 400,000 attendees and was noticeably underprepared for the number of occupants.
Woodstock was an escape for Americans during the Vietnam War and Civil Rights movement and a chance to express music and community while spreading a message of unity and peace. Many popular musicians performed at the festival, helping inspire a new age of music and counterculture.
